Hey, My sister run hostel for students. Due to Covid-19 the hostel not getting any kind of income but the building land lord asking for rent. When I don’t have business because of lockdown how can I pay such a huge amount of rent to the landlord
Question
What step I can take regarding this

Every state is putting out circulars as regards paying rent. the issue is even pending before the Supreme Court as well. Right now, the tenants are harrassed to pay the rent however you would be required to speak with the landlord stating your reasons for not being able to pay the entire rent and request him to make installments and negotiate for the terms that as soon as things get normalised, the rent shall be paid.
if the landlord refuses to make the installments, approach the area DC and complaint about the behaviour. with the intervention of the DC, things can be negotiated and a middle point where no harm is caused to anyone can be reached.
if your sister vacates the property, the landlord will not be able to put up on rent again because of corona as no one would be ready to take it on rent because of the strict norms that are required to be followed due to corona. hence your sister is in a negotiating position. Otherwise a legal notice voicing your concern can also be issued to the landlord seeking officially the time to make the payment of rent.
