Start date delayed by more than 15 days

Question

I got an email offer from a private Software company stating Monthly salary, Start date,3 months contract, Title, Client etc. I accepted the offer through email. But my start date has still not honored and 15 days completed from Start date now but I have still not started. They say client is delaying due to COVID-19 and say they will start in another 1 week. Can I take any legal action. Based on their email only I accepted and cancelled all my other assignments and also my job search.

Kindly state if you are working as a free lancer for the company or you are on the pay roll of the company? What is the financial implication that you have facing due to delay of starting the work with the company?

Without getting the answers to the above questions, it is not possible to give you the best advice as to whether any legal action can be taken against the company for delaying the process.

However if the delay is causing you financial loss and it was understood between the parties that time is the essence of the contract entered between the parties then in that case, you can send them a legal notice seeking compensation and damages for the negligence on their part resulting in financial losses to you.
