Mutual divorce under different citizenship situation
Question
Hi, I got NZ citizenship in 2024. My ex husband still has indian citizenship in New Zealand. We got divorced for NZ court marriage in December 2024. I am in india (punjab, mohali) until mid march. And ex husband is in NZ. My quedtions –
– Do we still need divorce as per indian law?
– How do we get divorced here as per unusual circumstances? How long could it take? Would it be possible with absence of ex husband?

Yes you need to get the divorce decree validated in the family court of the area where the marriage was registered in India. if the husband doesnt object, the same may not take longer time, usually within 3 hearings, the divorce decree may be validated and you would be considered divorced as per law in India as your husband is still an Indian.
