Rental Payment Issue
Question
I have a rental agreement with coworking space company. As of now, due to covid 19 all the office spaces are closed. My company is working from home. But, the owner is asking for rent. Also, we have signed a rental agreement that has mentioned about the payment of monthly rental. We are not in a good financial position as the clients businesses are paused. How can we resolve this?
Please help.
Best regards,

The Government has issued directions that the landlords cannot insist on payment of rent during this epidemic times. The rent as a general rule will need to be paid. Get into negotiation with your Landlord as regards rescheduling the rent to be paid during as you will not be able to pay the rent for this month. What can be done is that the rent can be divided into installments to be paid once the epidemic times are closed and the normal work resumes. Hence it doesnt make a difference that the company is working from home because you are not ending the rental agreement rather it is closed due to unforseen circumstances which would be covered under the Force Majure clause, if you have one in your agreement, share it with the team at Instalegal to get a proper advice.
