What is the meaning of “one calendar month advance notice” in rent agreement

Question

I gave notice to vacate the house on 16th January 2021. My agreement reads “The lease may be terminated by either parties giving one calendar month notice i writing”.
Now owner is demanding to pay till Feb 28th as the notice is for once calendar month.

Please help. Ideally I understand that the I shll be able to vacate the house on 15th Feb and my advance deposit shall be returned on 15th Feb 2021. But owner is saying it can be done only on 28th feb and he is going to charge complete month rent.

    Your understanding is correct however if the rent period is from 1st of the month, the usual understanding is from 1 to 30th of the month as one month calender notice but that needs to be specified in the agreement itself. Otherwise one month calender notice begins from the day notice is given to the 30 days preceding that day. So get him a legal notice issued or get him to speak with a lawyer to get his understanding cleared.
