Copyright infringment

Question

I have bought a book written by managing director of a corporate company and scanned the whole book and circulated it in whatsapp to my colleagues. Now that corporate company came to know about this and threatening about copyright infringement penalty. What could be the best way to avoid any legal complications?

    You circulated the same with the intent to gain from the said resource or was it for the purpose of education without earning anything from such circulation? The fact that you gained commercially will make you liable for copyright infringment.
