Validity of marriage registered registered abroad in India

Question

My marriage was solemnized abroad as per the Civil Law five years ago. We are planning to return back to India. Will the marriage be valid in the country?

    General law is that the marriage registered abroad is valid in India and if you want, you can get the marriage certificate validated in the Municipal Corporation of your hometown as well. However it also depends in which country you have got married and whether the laws of that country are similar with the laws applicable on your marriage in India.
